As Seen On Throwdown With Bobby Flay

Monday, September, 25th, Food Network, 2 a.m.

It's here, the Cocktails episode of Throwdown with Bobby Flay on the Food Network featuring Vegas' own Tobin Ellis and me, Xania Woodman. "Nobody loves bartending more than Tobin Ellis! Tobin is a master mixologist--a drink chef--who has created drink menus for some of the hottest clubs in the country. He's also one of the top flair bartending specialists in the world. In this episode, Toby will unveil his new signature drink, which he created just for the Food Network. What he doesn't know is that the Food Network's own Bobby Flay will be visiting Toby's bar to wet his whistle and throw down the ultimate cocktail challenge. It will be up to our nightlife aficionados to decide who has the best drink on the strip!" Nightlife aficionado, eh? Wonder who that could be? Yes, I am on the show. Check it out ang get the recipies here.

Well-known nightlife personality Jack Colton of www.JackColton.com has compiled a list of the 31--yes, 31--most influential people in Las Vegas nightlife and I was entirely floored when I was told I was on it! Says Colton on his popular blog, "There are literally hundreds of people who spend long hours each night keeping Las Vegas nightlife (arguably) the best in the United States. Over the past few weeks I have consulted a lot of very well-known and respected colleagues to help me settle on the final thirty-one people to include in this list. " The five criteria used to whittle down the list demand that the person consistently make an overall positive contribution to Las Vegas nightlife; has either risen quickly within the industry, or has been established for many years; makes a point to stay visible even when they are not working; always carries themselves in professional, respectful, and outgoing manner; and is someone Colton either know well, or is merely a handshake away from. While Colton and I have not even formally met, I'm glad to hear the litmus test I was held to as I strive to live up to that each day. See the full list of 31 fab, hard working industry members here. And congratulations to the other 30 honorees!

Colton was also kind enough to add The Circuit to his links list, joining our pals Vegas.com, NapkinNights.com, SpyOnVegas.com, Norm, Robin Leach's Luxe Life, and more. Check us all out here!

Great Job Description - by Richard Abowitz

"I love this dead-on description from the e-mail newsletter The Circuit by Xania Woodman, nightclub columnist for the Las Vegas Weekly, where I am on staff: Home again, home again.... Every time I leave and return to Vegas I grow to love it even more. Except when flying into McCarran Airport on an insanely busy Sunday morning as I just did. Then it sucks. But as the plane approaches and everyone cranes their necks to see the Strip, and shares with their neighbor what plans they have for their visit, a wry smile always spreads across my face like I know some sort of secret. In a way, I do. I think to myself, 'I know where you're going, what you're eating, where you're drinking, and where you're dancing.' It's a privilege to be allowed into their minds this way. It's also comforting. Ah Vegas, you old so-and-so. I love ya!"

"Dress the part. Getting into Vegas clubs is a privilege, not a right, Woodman reminds. "Next in line does not always equal next into the club," she says. "Discrimination is common where clothing is concerned." Read the entire article.

People Are Saying.... "It seems, the trend is for the people and the events to make their way back to the Loop . Since the opening of Suede, Piranha, and the 8 1/2 Lounge, celebrities like Janet Jackson and most recently Britney Spears have been bringing big national attention to the humble collection of streets." -Xania Woodman, The Circuit LV

"Loved the article you wrote in the Las Vegas Weekly about club etiquette. You said what so many people should say but don't, because others either aren't aware of, or are ignorant to common sense in las vegas. That issue remains on my living room coffee table for my out of town guests to read." -- Circuit reader Liz Boyd

Up To Speed And Into High Gear For The New Year - By Robin Leach
"Only local nightclub queen Xania Woodman, who publishes her own Circuit
e-news blitz on the internet each week, could find this deliciously tasty gossip item: she claims legendary singer/songwriter Kenny Loggins fell asleep New Years Eve on the bountiful bosom of his female companion while at Wynn's ultra lounge Lure. Apparently, he didn't even wake when the DJ played Kenny's raucous '80s classic "Footloose." But he did rally when security tried to relocate him for some last minute VIPs -- and by flipping out, kept his seat!!!!"

The Circuit Clublister - By Casey Miller
"The Circuit is a weekly email newsletter and site that bills itself as “A Public Service for People Who Want to Party,” ostensibly directing you to the hottest clubs and parties in Las Vegas. Xania Woodman, the power behind the Circuit, is a writer for the Las Vegas Weekly. You can look up all the party information on the site, but I can guarantee you that if you are a local (meaning have a Nevada state ID), she can get you onto the list for clubs like Tao, Pure, and Tangerine. Being a recent transplant to Vegas myself, I have used the service several times, and it works perfectly. It’s also a great resource for finding out what club is hosting an after-party or season finale wrap. No locals I know have had problems getting into the clubs that Xania has placed them on the list for. Non-locals can also try their luck, but again, it’s up to the club whether to honor your listitude if you have no local ID. Happy clubbing."

"The Circuit is a list I use to organize the social and late night events in Las Vegas for myself and many of my friends. It is the only one stop UP TO DATE source for night time activities. Xania Woodman really has a beat on the night beat....without her, many people would have no reason to get up the next day at all!!. Thanks Xania for getting us all up the next day to enjoy yet another night!"

"In the meantime we return to Empire Ballroom this Friday night to celebrate (my personal friend) Xania Woodman's 1 year anniversary of The Circuit. You go girl. Some of you may remember when I wrote a column for the Valley Explorer a few years ago. It's difficult being an entertainment journalist. It sucks when you are out all night on the town and have to get up with a hangover to write a story. Cheers to you girlfriend. Make sure to be there by midnight for her celebration. We have something special in store for her readers."

Yes, even The Eye On Vegas has a li'l love for this chica! (well, at one point anyway...) ;)

From the Eye On Vegas, by Bryan Bass 8.16.04

A Shadow of It's Former Self - "A recent stop by Caesars' Shadow Lounge reflected a pretty dismaying sight. The flair bar sports some of the best bottle-tosser's in town, however, the room was a disaster. Tables were littered with glasses, bottles and trash and the floor was covered in a carpet of debris with bar stools scattered throughout the room. The Manager On Duty, who will not be named, seems disconcerned by it all. "I'm just babysitting this room until they find the next twenty-something manager to run it. I really don't care because its not my problem." Wow, well The Eye hopes that they are taking better care of the new Spanish Steps Bar because we remember the days when John Moreschi and Xania Woodman had Shadow running as the best flair bar in town.

Nights On The Circuit gets a nod from the NPA

Meet the new queen of clubs via "The Circuit", by Matt Kelemen

CityLife met an up-and-coming scenester at "Pure Tuesday" whom you are going to hear a lot more about in the future. Xania V. Woodman is the publisher of a recently launched e-newsletter titled "The Circuit," and it's the most informative and fun independently published Vegas nightlife read in cyberspace.

"The Circuit" started off as a result of two things: Woodman liked to go out just about every night, and her friends always called her to find out what was going on. She works for concierge company VIPVegas.com, a position that gives her access to insider nightlife news. And on the weekend before Halloween, she collected all the info she had and sent it to 15 recipients.

"The purpose originally was to give information to all of my friends who were calling me or e-mailing me during the week, saying they had friends in town or family that they wanted to take out," she says. "Everybody was asking me, 'Where should we go? What should we do?' That kind of stuff."

"The Circuit" quickly grew from there, joining "Viva Las Vegas" (www.billhere.com), "Week In Networking" (www.winlv.net) and "Napkin Nights" (www.napkinnights.com) as the best e-newsletters containing news and coverage of Vegas nightlife and entertainment. "The way the title came about was that I use to refer to 'The Circuit.' 'The Circuit' was where everybody goes; it's an expected tour almost."

In other words, Woodman is a go-to tastemaker, letting people know where the hotspot is on any given night of the week, or being the first to let everyone know that Light surpassed the House of Blues as the place to go on Sundays.

Woodman still goes out four or five times a week. In her latest dispatches, she buzzes about the new Monday nights at Mix and Tangerine's Thursday-night weekly party for production cast members, "Backstage Booty." She's lending her expertise to a new locally produced television show and will soon launch her Web site (www.thecircuitlv.com).

Meanwhile, you can sign up for "The Circuit" by contacting Woodman at subscribe@TheCircuitLV.com. Keep in mind, the newsletter is for locals only -- and if you cut-and-paste her content into your own newsletter or Web site, you won't be receiving "The Circuit" for long.
